Archives For Thomas

Looks like I was included in the prestigious American Photography 30 for my Light Projections.  This is my 5th award from American Photography (It was announced in April but I just found out about it!).  Congrats to all those chosen and the final winners selected for the book.

Thomas Brummett is among the  American Photography 30 Winners!

Free and anonymous web site…. http://www.whopaysartists.com/  That tracks artists jobs and the money (or lack of) they make from them.

Making a living as an artist can be hard.

You never know how much to ask for. Discussions about money are taboo because we pretend that passion and creativity alone should pay the bills. Some of the best events have “no budget”, and sometimes only the worst events can make a career as an artist look painfully sustainable. Let’s help each other sort through some of the confusion, and develop an ongoing dialogue about how artists make money.

How Much Do Artists Make?

The Ryan Adams tour will be coming to Philly in July. He has written more hits you have never heard than practically any other songwriter on the planet. In my estimation he is the preeminent songwriter of his generation. Why? As I look on my I-pod I have over 100 songs by him; and those are just the amazing ones. Last time he was here he played solo and it was incredible. (A result of his having to virtually start over after shattering his wrist in a fall off a stage. After which he basically had to teach himself how to play guitar again).

If you have never discovered this true musical genius now is your big chance. Here is a small (live) sampling…

Music Break: Ryan Adams

Jim Campbell is a master at taking a moving image and making it a 3-Dimensional Sculpture…He relies on the power of the human mind to detect and recognize movement. He can take a string of lights and make magic with them. His work is really wonderful but you need to see the video to get it…

Jim Campbell: Exploded View

Maya Angelou, one of our greatest poets has passed.

The world is a little darker without her light today.  A light that gave us all a glimpse into what it meant to be black in America but most importantly she  always reminded us what it means to be human.
